Northwest Remedy User Group Meeting

Minutes

 

v     This meeting was held at the Denali office in Bellevue.

v     Presentation – Remedy 5.1 – by Everett Carnahan from Remedy

Ø      Powerpoint presentation is available at Remedy’s support site.  The URL is: http://www.remedy.com/customers/dev_community/AR_Prod_Info.htm.  The release date is projected to be sometime before the end of September 2002.

Ø      New Features

§        New field types

·        Currency

¨      Features conversion and Effective Date features.

¨      Combine with Web Services to keep data up to date.

·        Date and Time fields

¨      They are actually separate data fields, not just displaying portions of the timestamp.

¨      Arithmetic can be done on them.

·        Checkboxes

¨      Just like Radio Buttons, only square instead of round.

·        Calendar popup widget for web.  (this is actually available as a Java applet for 5.0).

§        Web Service capability

·        Works on any platform (IBM, MS, Sun).

·        Security is still an issue to be resolved and standardized.

·        Creating them is a little more involved than creating a Filter.

§        Integration

·        E-mail – completely new mail interface

¨      Can handle attachments

¨      Handles POP3/SMTP/IMAP servers

¨      Is multithreaded, and can use multiple mailboxes and connect to multiple AR Servers.

¨      Can use HTML templates within the Remedy form.

¨      Messages to multiple users will only display at the level of the user with the lowest level of security.

¨      If a record is locked using row level access, it wil only be included if all recipients have access to it.

·        LDAP – enhanced connectivity.

v     Presentation – Entuition’s Intersect for Telecom by Kevin ???

Ø      Full order management processing for Telecom usage

Ø      The product integrates Location Management, Asset Management, Circuit tracking, and Software management modules seamlessly.

Ø      There is a product called Work Order Manager that allows dispatching Work Orders to field tech via wireless handheld devices (i.e. Windows CE).  It integrates with Intersect.

Ø      Integrates with Visio via VB scripts, in that the application exports the component names and their relationships into Visio, creating a diagram.

§         Customized and individualized (i.e. Cisco) Visio templates may be used.

Ø      Trouble Management (a.k.a. Order Management) is a procurement system that is every bit as detailed as the Asset and Circuit Management systems.

Ø      Uses ARS 5.0.x features to minimize amount of Remedy workflow required.

Ø      NetViz integration is in development, which would allow for more detailed drawings than is practical or even possible in Visio.

Ø      All workflow other than the Visio integration is done in Remedy.
