Thanks to hosts Geoff Endresen and Rick Cook for sponsoring this meeting. This was the Agenda.

Northwest Remedy User Group Meeting
Sept 19, 2000

Minutes by Rick Cook

  1. This meeting was held at Herrick Douglass’ new training facility in Bellevue.
  2. Remedy Web 4.0 Demo – Geoff Endresen.
    1. New features of this release:
      1. Runs on Java server pages (Java script), so it requires that the Java Development Kit be pre-installed.
      2. Remedy recommends that Remedy Web be installed on a server separate from the AR Server, mainly for performance purposes.
      3. Time Zone and View can be selected on the login screen, or hardcoded in the JSP.
      4. Sortable, filterable Form list
      5. Look and feel of a regular Remedy 4.x form, with Page fields, Trim, Table fields, etc.
      6. All AR Fonts are available, but images on buttons are not available.
      7. Customizations made to ARWeb 3.x are not portable to this platform, due to a different technology being used.
      8. Same view can be used for client and web, or different one if desired.
      9. All changes take place in the Administrator, just like for the regular client.
      10. Front Page may be used to add background colors, logos, etc. to the look of any page.
      11. Attachments may be viewed from the Web client if the Web server has permissions to see the file’s location, but attachments cannot be made to a record from the Web client.
      12. Functions like reports that would require opening one window from another are not innate in Remedy Web. However, it is possible to work around many of those issues by embedding URL calls instead.
      13. Active Links run by being translated into Java Script, which then emulates the action called by the Active Link.
      14. Displaying an entry from a results list (as opposed to Modifying one) shows a view that has the look of an HTML table, but is more printable than the JSP view.
    2. Geoff demonstrated the ease of configuring the Remedy Web client using a combination of Remedy Web and Remedy Administrator.
  3. Vendor Fair in November
    1. Where – Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center.
    2. Who – KMS (Knowledge Mgmt System), Courion (password), FSI (workflow mgmt.), and Serena (self healing application) are definite commits. Seagate (Crystal reports) and a few others are still in the process of confirming/committing to this.
    3. When – Tuesday, November 21, from 8:30 to 4 p.m.
    4. Other topics suggested for coverage:
      1. Reporting, especially 4.5 and Crystal.
      2. Configuration management.
      3. Remedy Support strategy.
      4. Remedy future product direction.
      5. DSO
      6. OLE/DDE
      7. Web forms
      8. Remedy Mail integration/CRM
      9. Remedy API
      10. Palm/CE/Wireless applications and integrations.
  4. Hot Topics
    1. If "Quoted Identifier" is turned on in an MSSQL installation, join forms will not load when Remedy is installed. Thanks to Geoff Endresen for this tidbit.
    2. Migrator deleted an entire permissions group during a migration. It existed on the target system until after the migration, at which point it was gone. Has happened twice.
    3. User and Administrator downloads take a very long time. Deleting the _ISDel.exe file from the download package seems to free up the process. This was reported both in the group and on the ARSList on 9/19/00 by Glenn Botts.
    4. Capturing an entire email string in a work log is problematic unless one uses CRM, which has that feature built in.
  5. Next Meeting time/date/location
    1. Location: either REI or Gates Foundation. See this site for a final location when one is decided upon.
    2. Date: Tuesday, October 17, 2000. Time TBA, depending on the site.
    3. Topics: TBA
